The main task in the refurbishment of Le Méridien Lav was to achieve a balance between the Mediterranean ambience and the mid-century spirit of this legendary hotel. Located in the vicinity of Split, it is the largest hotel on this part of Dalmatian Coast. The project scope was to refurbish the reception area, lobby and bar with accompanying terraces. Repositioning the bar opened up the floor plan and maximised guest views of the unique and spectacular setting. In the bar, intimate ambiences were created with carefully positioned partitions and furniture. The reception area was redesigned to create a multi-use lounge space and features an original 3d wall sculpture centrepiece above the reception pods. The artwork is a parametric outline of the nearby coastline. The overall interior design scheme connects the indoor and outdoor areas opening up the lobby to the terraces.

With sustainability being a key consideration, we preserved and reintegrated the existing stone flooring and cladding; used locally sourced materials (wood), as well as collaborated with locally-based artisans. Biophilic design helps replicate the essence of the surrounding Mediterranean flora. Atellior has celebrated the importance of the hotel’s legendary history as a hub of the vibrant Split culture through the curation and display of mid-century photographs documenting everyday life in Split and Dalmatia. As the final result, the public areas were given a modern and airy feel while respecting the building’s heritage and importance as a local landmark.

This project has also been nominated for the Grand Prix award in the category Hospitality.
