We all know that space comes at a premium in hospitality design. But as bathrooms get smaller and the guest expectations get bigger, how can designers still deliver the five-star experience? Meeting at Smiths of Smithfield, leading hospitality interior designers met with Emma Kennedy and Geberit as part of a Roundtable event primarily dedicated to the subject of bathroom space. Like all lively discussions, the conversation spanned everything from lighting to sustainability, raising interesting points along the way and even better solutions
Returning to the original question of what Guests were looking for in 2022. Una says "In terms of product, the main thing will always be the shower. Everyone understands that guests expect a good powerful shower, and that really is your basic requirement. However, the expectations looking forward will probably change in terms of water consumption and sustainability, and how we can be more mindful of how we use water. I think this is where we as designers have a massive responsibility to interrogate everything including the products that we specify. We have to check the supply chains- to know that everything has been responsibly sourced."
At the Roundtable event 'Small bathrooms with big ambitions', alongside Una, editor Emma Kennedy gathered a group of experts:
• Lynne Clapham-Carter, Geberit UK
• Amal Yusef, David Collins Studio
• Caroline Campbell, TONIK. ASSOCIATES
• Yi-Zhen Jones, twenty2degrees Design Partnership
